THE MOTHER'S NATURE

The Mothers Nature is the first conceptual art installation by toronto arts collective All Creative. Crafted by visual artist Rachel South and conceptual artist Kwasi Agyei, The collaborative piece is primarily a meditation on mankind's deep rooted connection to the natural world and modern consumer cultures negligence of the resources needed to produce our commodities.

Using 6ft retail mannequins painted meticulously to reference the daytime sky, each model is adorned with live vegetation. a reflection of the world untouched by human culture as well as a deviation from it. Consumer culture does not adhere to the same sensibilities as production culture. While Production culture cannot survive without taking into account the resources needed to produce trade goods the recipient of those goods ie the consumer is often oblivious to the tangible and well documented harvesting of raw earth materials. The retail mannequin is not only a display mechanism but a cultural marker as well, due to the fast paced and evolutionary nature of the industry it derives from. An industrial chain of events that is completed only when a product is purchased and used by the consumer. Since the consumer acts as the final point in the production line although independent from the production itself it is challenging for the everyday consumer to shift focus to a production minded shopper. The male and Female models are a representation for all of humanity thus their faces are concealed by masks arranged to simulate the pattern of medical tape , symbolizing the healing of our culture's sense of self and sensibilities before we can “see” the beauty that we have been neglecting for so long. So that we may “see” the destructive cycle we are apart of and rebuild our planet.
